Three new reports resulting from the work of the European consortium "SEE ME" have been published, offering new perspectives on the care of older people in Europe.
The first of these, "SEEing social and meaning needs, talents and dreams of older adults receiving (informal) care" is a study that looks at the importance of the social and meaning needs, talents and dreams of older adults receiving care. It explains the concept and the European perspective.
A second study provides ideas for optimising the competences and skills of professional, voluntary and informal carers.
Finally, the third and last of the papers presented by this European consortium analyses good practices in "social inclusion through meaningful ageing" in different European countries.
Three materials that can serve as inspiration when it comes to optimising the care of older people by creating possibilities of meaning and social needs for older people, with a summarised version translated into Spanish that can be downloaded here.
Presentation of SEE ME in Madrid
On 15 March, the conference "Accompanying from Talent" was held in Madrid, an event in which we were able to enjoy the presentation of #SEE_ME ("Look at me"), a European Erasmus + project that seeks to move towards a vision of care that moves from deficit, from dependence to talent, to meaningful ageing. The fact is that the need to feel valued, to feel useful, accompanies us throughout the life cycle, and in people who need support in their day-to-day lives, it takes on even greater importance.
The event, organised by Matia Instituto and Grandes Amigos, was attended by speakers such as Marisa Palomino, Deputy Director General for Prevention and Health Promotion of Madrid Salud of the Madrid City Council; Pilar Serrano, Directorate General for the Elderly. Area of Families, Equality and Social Welfare of the Madrid City Council; María Pascual, Yolanda Martín and Roberto Cortés, from Grandes Amigos, and Sara Marsillas and Álvaro García, researchers from Matia Instituto.
The consortium of this Erasmus+ project is working on the development of training aimed at training people who accompany and care for the elderly from this inclusive and empowering vision.
In the near future, SEE ME will be releasing a ToolKit with which to begin to build or consolidate this change of approach to care.
