Matia Fundazioa, with the help of the Adinberri Foundation, launches a survey to find out about the social inclusion situation of people over 60 in Gipuzkoa

23.09.2020
  • This survey is one of the actions of the Barner Hartu project financed by the "Adinberri" programme.
  • It will be carried out on around 1,650 people in the territory.
  • It will allow a diagnosis to be made of the situation and needs of different realities regarding inclusion and ageing, taking into account the gender perspective.
  • The results will make it possible to propose strategies that will enable progress to be made towards an inclusive society for the elderly in Gipuzkoa.

Matia Instituto has launched, in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the HURKOA Foundation, the "Barner Hartu Study", a project financed and selected in the 2019 call for proposals of the Adinberri strategy of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

THIS INITIATIVE HAS the objective of providing planners and those responsible for social policies with detailed information on dimensions relating to personal and environmental aspects in which the population of Gipuzkoa aged 60 and over lives, from which keys are obtained to advance towards an inclusive society for the elderly.

AS PART OF THE STUDY, A SURVEY IS BEING CARRIED OUT ON SOME 1,650 people from all over Gipuzkoa who have been selected at random and whose contribution is essential for the institutions to be able to find out the needs and demands in relation to the social inclusion of the elderly and to seek solutions for them.

The survey asks questions about family networks, attitudes, opinions, housing, health and use of social services, among other issues.

About the study:

Social exclusion is receiving more and more attention in the field of gerontology. This interest comes from a combination of the patterns of demographic ageing, current social and economic health instability (linked to covid 19) and the susceptibility of these age cohorts to growing inequalities.

This proposal has a multidimensional approach to exclusion by distinguishing two distinct profiles: on the one hand, older people who, for reasons related to ageing, may find themselves in situations of social exclusion; but also, people with life paths marked by exclusion who are in the process of ageing, as is the case of people with mental illness or the homeless. In both cases, without forgetting the gender perspective that undoubtedly marks the different life paths. The study of both profiles will make it possible to obtain a more complete vision of the situation of exclusion and ageing in the territory, as well as to generate action strategies with a view to promoting the inclusion of older people.
