The importance of sleep in the elderly
Lack of sleep is one of the most common disorders in our society and can affect up to 25% of the population causing exhaustion, anxiety and decline. Sleep disturbances can be transitory, if they last less than three weeks, and chronic if there is poor daily sleep for more than two months.
Ageing causes a reduction in the depth of sleep and increases the number of awakenings from which the person falls asleep easily (fragmented sleep).
